'''Roger Parslow''' (born in 1984 — died in 1995) was a kitchen boy around [[Lyra Belacqua]]'s age, and he and Lyra were friends. Roger was the youngest of the Parslow family that had long been employed as masons for Jordan College. He had several attributes similar to Lyra, being adventurous like Lyra though he restrained Lyra when she became too ambitious and over adventurous. He and Lyra explored and learnt about Jordan College, from the roofs, over the grounds, to the cellars and crypts. Roger's [[daemon]], Salcilia, was unsettled, but frequently took the form of a terrier. Later on, when children started disappearing, Roger too disappeared, having been kidnapped by the Gobblers ([[General Oblation Board]]). All these children were taken to [[Bolvangar]] where an experiment centre was located. During her travels, Lyra reached Bolvangar and assisted the children to escape along with Roger. With Roger, Lyra went on to see [[Lord Asriel]] in [[Svalbard]]. This proved unfortunate for Roger because Lord Asriel used Roger to create a hole between worlds by cutting him from his daemon. In the process Roger's daemon, Salcilia, was killed. For this, Lyra blamed herself. Lyra once again encountered Roger in the World of the Dead. He was the first to leave the World of the Dead, and become one with the cosmos.
