Colonel J.C.B. Carborn[1] was the first aëronaut to fly a balloon over the North Pole, and wrote a book about his experience entitled By Zeppelin to the Pole.[1] He was part of the Royal Arctic Institute and was a notably elderly gentleman.[2]
